craftstudio: i heart this app!

i decided to make this past saturday a “me” day. my husband was off brewing beer with friends so it was perfect timing. i woke at 10am, video chatted with my mom, listened to music, did a bit of crafting, listed some things on ebay, cleaned out my closests, and watched 8 episodes of the US version of “The Voice” on hulu (i’m nearly caught up!). my day actually ended the next day at 3am! ok, i know this day sounds hectic to most, but believe me this was a perfect day for me. i am not a person that sits still, so to be able to pick each of those things that kept me busy (and truly enjoy them) was heaven.

we all need a “me” day from time to time! (have you had one recently?!)

so the one thing i did on saturday that i’ve yet to mention… i discovered a great new app on my ipad. the app is called CraftStudio and it’s brought to you by the crew over at Martha Stewart. while the app costs $4.99, it’s a craft lovers gem. it’s basically digital scrapbooking, stationary making and photo blinging (the non-technical term) all-in-one.

happy birthday macy!

the app allows you to add a photo and then layer it with paper, punch shapes and designs, add stickers and sayings, custom write text, and much more. once you’ve finished, you can save the project, share it on socials, email, print, or send to snapfish and order as photos or greeting cards. currently the app has 4 themes you can mix and match with: everyday, doilylace, birthday party and nature. i will admit, the one thing missing is a holiday theme. this would be great for creating christmas cards.

above is a screenshot of my latest creation. yes, it’s a birthday card for a cat, but not just any cat. meet macy. macy the cream of the crop when it comes to felines. i’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old, and today is her 10th birthday! although she’s now a decade old, she still moves and communicates like a kitten. i always say that she’s a dog trapped in a cat’s body, but without the neediness of a dog. macy will play fetch, come to you on command, and she has a sassy little personality much like someone else i know. she’s pretty much perfect. happy birthday girl!

smile-worthy greetings.

i am a big fan of unique greeting cards & wrapping.

instead of giving someone a cookie cutter hallmark or a gift encased in an expensive (+ blah) wrap job – i prefer to make the greeting & package part of the gift… something personal and fun.

i buy greeting cards as i see them, whether it’s for something next week or next year. i currently have a drawer w/ 24 greetings and 6 packs of stationary. i also always have a least one roll of kraft paper on hand. that combined w/ some jute, string or yarn + buttons, tags, pages from books, vintage post card clippings, etc… well, combined it makes for a splendidly out of the ordinary package.

on with the story…

i recently stumbled upon some of the most amazing greetings i’d seen in a long while – and i want every single one of them. the company, TMOD, is a local aussie purveyor of stationary & jewelry. their motto: “design without constraints”. the company is led by two cool artist chicks: georgie swift and milenka osen (tmod.com.au).

now…. let me introduce you to some of their creations. *note to my american readers (because the majority of you are): it seems as though these cuties currently aren’t available at shops in the US. however, you can purchase online and ‘yes’, they offer international shipping. yay!

party hat cards
i purchased the headdress from my local news agency this evening… love love love it. (i might even keep it for myself and throw it on some random night when i feel the urge to party – it’s that cute).

i mean, what a clever idea to create a greeting that triples as a keepsake and fashion.

a few of my other favorites include the western hat (very fitting for howdiy), the sailor hat and the daisy chain.

check out the full range of party hat cards here.

mask cards
kittens & full blown cats, i love them (w/ my little macy ann being the best of the best). i’ve been on the kitten train for years, but i’m not the only one. youtubers love the furry felines (the 3.5 year old ‘kittens inspired by kittens‘ is still my fav), plus the ladies over at hellogiggles even have a live kitten cam.

anyways… back to the masks. how cute is this kitty cat? other gems include a deer, fox, bunny and more.

check out the full range of mask cards here.

scratchie cards
whether you are 8, 18 or 80 and whether it’s a scratch & sniff sticker, lottery ticket or one of those cute little romance tickets you can buy at urban outfitters… everyone loves a good scratch.

these cards are super cute + add an extra element of surprise even after the envelope is opened.

i love this little girl and her blackboard, there are also 20+ others to chose from (the ‘just married’ is darling).

check out the full range of scratchies here.

TMOD offers these + several other cool greetings, designs, gifts and more… check them out. i’m already sold.

project – chronicled creations

are you a crafter at heart, but need a little kick start to get your creative juices flowing? if you answered ‘yes’, then might i recommend chronicle books? chronicle is a book publisher based in san fran with 40+ years under their belt. they specialize in putting out quality books, stationary and other merchandise in the art, design, photography, lifestyle and d.i.y. realm.

i first stumbled upon chronicle here in australia, thousands of miles from the country where i’m from and the books are made.  my fav little bookstore in sydney’s the rocks area called ‘ariel‘ (check it out, it’s amazing), carries a good hearty helping of their products.  while i have to pay a couple extra bucks for the import taxes… it’s well worth the many projects that the items ultimately make.

i’ve purchased several chronicle products in my day (which i highly recommend), including:

the photos i’ve posted here include some of the chronicle products or projects as displayed in my house. check out chronicle for these & many more amazing products that will keep you (or ‘get’ you) crafting & communicating!
