o.p.p. – quarter dye t-shirt

if you are in the northern hemisphere… spring is here! and with spring comes cleaning… most of the time which involves closets and getting rid of old + purchasing some new. shopping!!!

each spring i’m in need of a few good staple tees. this past year i had an obsession for stripes and the year before that it was solid oversized tees. this year i want to spice it up by adding a bit of my own creativity to the wardrobe. (note: i’ve been in a slump for the past couple years when it comes to my fashion. working from home can do that to you. i call pajama pants, t-shirts, hoodies, and ugg boots – “my work clothes”. it’s sad, esp considering i used to consider myself a bit of a trendsetter among my peers.)

i love these DIY tees found over at the sweet paul blog. it’s kind of a take on tie dye without being too hippie. the partial dye job is actually pretty stylish.

places i recommend good cotton tees for dyeing: target, gap, levi’s, h&m (as used for the shirt in the original post), american eagle, and even forever 21.

christmas vacation reading.

i thought i’d share a couple of my most recent book acquisitions: junk genius by juliette goggin and stacy sirk + homemade gifts vintage style by sarah moore. (i also had to include in the photo this really cute little felt owl pin cushion which was handcrafted here in adelaide by fleecidesigns).

i plan to curl up on the couch this afternoon with these reads and start bookmarking some fun projects for the house, gift-giving and to share here on the blog. anyone read or completed projects from these books?!

handmade find friday! (bowerbird bazaar)

back for another installment of handmade find friday! well… i must confess, it’s saturday here – but considering over 50% of you readers reside in the US – it’s still friday for most of you.  i conciously held this week’s post off a bit because i wanted to highlight this amazing handmade fair that only happens a few times a year here in sunny ol’ Adelaide.

the bowerbird bazaar brings in fashion, jewelry and all different types of craft designers from around Australia for 3 days of indulgence in the the name of handmade. the event has gotten so big over the past couple of years that the local au etsy team makes the trek down for the event (where they even offer etsy shop consultations). though only about a 1/3 of the size, it’s very reminiscent of Chicago’s renegade craft fair (now a worldwide affair) – great shopping, great food, great fun.

here you’ll find my purchases for the day… actually, this is not ALL my purchases, but i don’t want to give away any surprise gifts that i purchased for a couple of my faithful readers.
