project – crocheted doily pillows

i’ve been wanting to create some new pillows for months now… i’d originally thought i’d try to do some up from scratch, then i contemplated a latch hook kit (which is still in the plans for a pillow or rug), but after stumbling upon the perfect pieces to make a great ensemble of cushions… i decided to go the create from creations route.

i found the corduroy pillows at a local thrift store (or op-shop as they say here in australia) for $2 each. they still had the original tags on them and are the perfect blank canvas for a pillow project.

the crocheted doilies are from one of my favorite little shops here in sydney.  the shop: newspaper taxi, a small boutique with the perfect mix of old vintage & new handmade creations.  it’s not only a place with amazing merchandise, but also the interior design of the shop makes me feel cozy and at home every time that I step in (and I step in a lot, typically stopping by 1x every weekend to check out the new items).  for all you non-sydneysiders, check out their blog (and the store if you’re in town): http://newspapertaxi.com.au/.  the doilies were $16 each and these were just two of the many colors they had to choose from.

to secure the doilies to the pillow, i simply did a little stitch on the brown & green outside layer of each one.  one stitch per petal.

in total, the project cost $36 – not too shabby!
